Choosing Your Countertop

Granite, quartz or marble? How to tell them apart and pick the right stone and color.

Should I choose granite or quartz for a busy family kitchen?

Both work well. Granite handles heat better and every slab is unique. Quartz never needs sealing and keeps a consistent look. If you cook a lot and set hot pans down, lean granite. If you want the lowest maintenance, lean quartz.

Can quartz be used for an outdoor kitchen?

We do not recommend it. Long-term sun exposure can fade or yellow the resins in quartz. Granite holds up much better outdoors.

Can I see my slab before it is cut?

Yes, and we recommend it, especially for granite. Natural stone varies from slab to slab, so choosing yours means no surprises.

Cleaning & Care

What to use, what to avoid, stains, sealing and everyday care, straight from our team.

Does granite need to be sealed?

Yes. Granite is slightly porous. Sprinkle a few drops of water on it: if the water beads up, the seal is good; if it soaks in and darkens the stone, it is time to reseal. Quartz never needs sealing.

Can I put hot pans on quartz?

No. Quartz contains resin that can scorch under direct high heat. Always use a trivet or hot pad. Granite handles heat much better.

Installation & Timeline

What happens from templating to install day, and how to get your kitchen ready.

How long does countertop installation take?

After your estimate and slab selection, we template your cabinets and fabricate your countertops to fit. Most kitchen installations are completed in a single day.

What do I need to do before templating?

Have your base cabinets installed and level, choose your sink, faucet and cooktop (ideally on site), and clear off the counters.

Do you remove my old countertops?

Yes. Our countertop replacement service includes removing and disposing of your old countertops.

When can I use my sink again?

As soon as your plumber reconnects it after installation. Ask your installer how long adhesives need to cure first.

Edge profiles, sink cutouts and fixing chips, cracks and dull spots.

What edge profiles can I choose?

Eased, bevel, half bullnose, full bullnose, ogee and mitered are the most popular. Compare them in our edge visualizer or read the edge profile guide.

Can I get an undermount sink?
