How Do You Remove Stains From Granite Countertops?
The Short Answer
It depends on the stone and the stain. Water rings usually dry out on their own. For stains from acidic drinks, a poultice is applied, covered with plastic wrap for about 24 hours, and repeated if needed.

John Bujak: Let's say someone puts something they shouldn't have on a granite countertop for too long and it creates a ring. How do you get a ring out of a granite countertop?
Kleopatra: It depends on the stone, and it depends on what that ring was. If it was just water, over time it'll just dry out. If it was something acidic, lemonade, Kool-Aid, whatever it may be, we have a poultice that we'll put over the stain, put plastic wrap over it and tape it around. It takes maybe 24 hours, then you take the poultice off and you can see. This may need to be done a handful of times, depending on the severity of the stain. But it is possible to get something out. Anything is possible, and not everything is possible. You have your give and take.

Water Rings
A dark ring from a glass or wet sponge is usually moisture absorbed into the stone. Give it time and it typically dries out on its own.
Stains From Acidic Drinks
For lemonade, juice or similar spills, a stone poultice is spread over the stain, covered with plastic wrap, taped down and left for about 24 hours. As it dries it draws the stain out. Severe stains may take several rounds.
Preventing Stains
