Today we’re going to look at another question that we get asked quite frequently: can my granite countertops be damaged? We know that countertops, whether it’s granite countertops or quartz countertops, are a very big investment in your kitchen, so rightfully, you want to know if it can be damaged, and if it does, what damages it, and how you can prevent it from being damaged. One thing to keep in mind is that out of the three stones that people usually use for the countertops, quartz is the most durable, then granite, and then marble. Granite is very durable, much harder than marble, that’s why we don’t usually recommend marble in the kitchen. Granite has been used widely in the commercial industry, and will withstand almost any element it comes up against, including cold and heat, because it is a natural stone, from the earth. But that doesn’t make granite indestructible. High impact blows can harm granite countertops, just like any other solid surface. Because of its crystalline structure, granite can chip if subjected to sharp hard objects. A chip however can be filled with a granite dust and epoxy mixture.
