After we took a look at some things you should consider before purchasing granite countertops, we take a look at the following question: Should you go with marble, or granite countertops?
Marble countertops are typically used for bathroom vanities, Jacuzzis, or fireplaces. Can you use them in the kitchen? Absolutely! Do we recommend it? No! Why? Because marble countertops are easy to scratch, and can be easily affected by acidic substances such as vinegars, ketchups, citrus beverages, etc. In the bathroom vanities, you don’t have that kind of stuff, so you don’t have to worry about it. Another reason why we don’t recommend marble countertops for your kitchen is that the high-gloss of the marble may be partially lost as the chemicals etch its surface.
Granite on the other hand, is considered to be one of the hardest stones in the world. Most granite countertops are not subject to etching by household acids or scratching by knives and pots or pans under normal use. It is not bothered by heat either. But that doesn’t mean you should treat it harshly, either. So even with granite countertops, make sure you’re taking care of it, and trying to minimize the usage of the acidic cleaning products.
Another specialty of ours, here at Marble & Granite Express, is the quartz countertops! A lot of people have been going with quartz lately. Quartz is a man-made material, so most of the time, it’s even more durable than granite, which is a natural stone. Quartz would look beautiful in any kitchen, and the colors / variations don’t differ as much as the granite does, from slab to slab! The price of the quartz doesn’t vary much from that of granite, either.
Bottom line, if you’re looking for kitchen countertops, we suggest going with granite countertops, but keep the quartz in mind. If you’re looking for bathroom vanities, jacuzzis, and fireplaces, any of the three would work perfectly, it just depends on your budget, and taste!
